Overview
Join Daisaku Kusama and Giant Robo as they battle the interstellar terrorist group Big Fire.
Giant Robo (1967-1968) is a Japanese tokusatsu mecha series created by Mitsuteru Yokoyama and broadcast on NET. Daisaku Kusama, a young pilot, teams up with the enormous robot Giant Robo to face the interstellar terrorist syndicate Big Fire, a villainous organization whose schemes drive each episode. Veteran actor Mitsunobu Kaneko plays Kusama, Toshiyuki Tsuchiyama voices the giant machine, and Hirohiko Sato plays the menacing Emperor Guillotine, the figure behind Big Fire. The series runs for a single season of twenty-six episodes, a self-contained action format where a new threat arrives and the hero and his robot answer it with spectacle. Its atmosphere is earnest and brisk, built on bold miniature-style battles, colorful villains, and a straightforward sense of good against evil. Adapted in spirit from the manga tradition of Yokoyama's work, the show belongs to the early Japanese giant robot wave that shaped later shonen mecha. Fans of Mazinger Z, Voltes V and Ultraman will find the same kind of heroic machine-driven adventure.
