Goblin Slayer

"I'm not saving the world. I just kill goblins." Rumor has it that, in a certain guild in the middle of nowhere, there is an extraordinary man who has climbed all the way to the Silver rank just by killing goblins. At the same guild, a priestess who's just become a new adventurer has formed her first party... and the man who ends up rescuing that party when they get into trouble is none other than the Goblin Slayer.

Goblin Slayer (2018-2023) is a Japanese seinen dark fantasy anime series adapted from a light novel, produced by White Fox and airing on AT-X. Its protagonist, a silver-ranked adventurer known only as the Goblin Slayer (voiced by Yuuichirou Umehara), has devoted himself entirely to hunting goblins after a childhood trauma. When a newly minted priestess (voiced by Yui Ogura) forms her first party at a remote guild and runs into trouble, he rescues them and gradually becomes their grim protector. Each episode is built from concrete adventuring work in a medieval world full of elves, dwarves, witches and demons, with the party facing dungeons, ambushes and monstrous enemies. The show spans two seasons and twenty-four episodes, following a single continuing storyline across its run. Its tone is harsh and unsparing, with brutal combat and disturbing imagery treated as routine guild business, yet it is also darkly tense and character driven. Fans of Berserk and Record of Lodoss War will find resonance in its grim fantasy register and monster-hunting grit, and viewers of Made in Abyss will recognize its seinen sensibility.

Viewers rate the series positively for its dark fantasy take on the adventurer genre, with its grim tone and uncompromising violence drawing both praise and criticism.
