Mr. Heart

Jin-won cares about one thing only: running. When he finds himself in a slump, his coach suggests Sang-ha as a pacemaker. Though Sang-ha's efforts are initially ignored, they find themselves growing closer and closer over time.

Mr. Heart (2020) is a South Korean boys' love romantic comedy series created for W-STORY, a short Korean web-style production. Cheon Seung-ho plays Jin-won, a university runner who cares about nothing but running until a slump sends him searching for help. Han Se-jin plays Sang-ha, the pacemaker his coach assigns him, whose early efforts are ignored and whose quiet persistence slowly draws the two closer. Lara plays Hyo-ri, and Yoo Jang-young plays Coach Bong, who pushes the athletes through training while the team's competitive world sets the pace. The engine of the series is simple: a rival-filled track program, workouts measured in laps and splits, and the slow realization that a partner who sets the pace can change how a person runs. Across eight brief episodes of roughly fifteen minutes each, the story stays close to the training grounds and dormitory life of a university sports team. Its tone is gentle, sincere, and warm, with wistful moments and a hopeful undercurrent. Fans of Heartstopper and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God will find resonance in its earnest queer romance and youthful sincerity. Its appeal lies in the patient, understated way attraction builds beside the everyday demands of competition and self-doubt.
