Steel Jeeg

Hiroshi Shiba is a car racer who is mortally wounded in a laboratory accident, but restored to life by his father, Professor Shiba.

Steel Jeeg (1975-1976) is a Japanese animated super robot series created by Go Nagai and broadcast on Fuji TV. Hiroshi Shiba, a car racer left mortally wounded after a laboratory accident, is brought back to life by his father, Professor Shiba, and bonded to a towering machine that answers his call. Voiced by Toru Furuya, Hiroshi is joined by Miwa Uzuki (Rihoko Yoshida) and the scientist Ootone (Isamu Tanonaka) as they confront the shadowy forces of Queen Jou Himika and her monstrous underlings, who send wave after wave of grotesque creatures against the city. Each episode is built around a clash of stylized monsters, a transformation sequence, and a spectacular robot battle, with the story advancing steadily across a single season of forty-six episodes. The tone is earnest, bright and heroic, with a sincere belief in courage and family loyalty running beneath the battles. The series is a classic of the 1970s super robot tradition, a Japanese anime for families and mecha fans. Fans of Mazinger Z, Getter Robo and UFO Robo Grendizer will find the same blend of heroic transformation, giant machine combat and melodramatic sincerity.

Viewers rate Steel Jeeg positively as a classic 1970s super robot series with memorable mecha action and a straightforward heroic story.
